Eco- friendly celebration for Black Nazarene

Environmental group Eco-waste has called all Quiapo devotees to be eco-advocates when they participate in the Black Nazarene procession this Saturday, January 9 with an appeal to prevent a repeat of last year's trash after the parade.  Record from the prevous year showed that  more than 120 tons of garbage was collected after the festivity and has utilized 19 dump trucks and around 300 street sweepers just to clean up the mess left by the crowd.

City of Manila's Public Service Department has accounted plastics, styrofoam, leftover food and cigarette butts as majority of what comprise the garbage. Hence, an appeal is made to the organizers to put garbage bins in strategic areas and to inform and encourage the participants to be wary of this environmental concern as they observe the religous feast.
